Chris Hoy should win but Lewis Hamilton will win because of the 30 million petrol head voters

Adlington in my opinion. Hoy was good with his three medals in Beijing but there just wasn't any competition there really for him so it wasn't that hard (well of course it was but you know what i mean.) Murray has had a great season and is the worlds most inform player right now but if he had won the Us open he would of been a serious contender, all the rest won the biggest prize in there sports thats where he failed.

Thats why in my opinion it comes between Adlington and Hamilton. Hamilton won the world championship for the first time since Damon Hill (1997- I think Sports Personality 2008 808613) He did this in the most dramatic of fashions, as you all proably know. Even then he just won by a single point which if you think about it isn't that impressive but at the end of the day he was great. Adlington on the other hand won the 400m freestyle and the 800m freestyle making her a double gold medalist. She was unfancied in the 400 as she was in a very tough final but in the end she produced a barn storming finish to take gold out of the clutches of Katie Hoff (I think im right). Int he 800 she won by over half a length and broke the oldest swimming record left in superb fashion.

This is why Adlington wins for me but as Ian said above Hamilton will win because of the publicitiy of his win.

Apart from in Japan Wink

I agree with you though about Adlington, she done a great job by winning her medals and getting the world records. Also, Hoy is an experienced cyclist and was expected to win. I think it would be great if Adlington got it but as a fellow Scotsman, it has to be Hoy!
